’26 Leonard Bristow was visited in April by CC math professors, Steven Janke and John Fauvel. Leonard, a CC math major, lives in Colorado Springs and fondly remembers his election to Phi Beta Kappa. Retired now, Leonard taught mathematics in Wisconsin and California.

’31 Matilda Willis Weber celebrated her 90th birthday on July 7 with a party that included eight family members who also attended CC. Matilda’s mother, Annie Clough Willis ’06, father, Willett Willis ’06, and brother, Willett Willis ’36 also attended CC.

 

’33 Henry Willie reported that Dan Santry and his wife, Inez, came up from Sun City, Ariz., to visit and spend a week in Colorado Springs. They toured the campus and had a short visit with Don and Phyllis Frantz Hibbard ’35.

 

’35 Mark your calendars! Your 65th reunion will be celebrated Oct. 13-15, 2000. Max Frankel was presented with the Leader of Learning award by the Colorado Agency for Jewish Education. "Uncle Max," as he is fondly referred to, has been described as a bridge-builder, devoted educator and tireless volunteer in the Jewish and secular communities in and around Colorado.

 

’39 Joe Aldendifer, Charles Boyce, Bernie Vessey Brenner, Roy Burge, Catharine Sparrow Clifton, Jim and Jule Hutchinson Haney, Kathryn Renfro Lundy, Phil Packer, Roberta Rice, Helen Zick Walker and Lucille Nelson Witt all planned to attend their 60th reunion in October.

 

’40 Save the date! Your 60th reunion will be celebrated Oct. 13-15, 2000. Betty Artz Oates is widowed and living in Columbus, Ohio. Her husband, Robert, passed away on Feb. 16.

’48 F. Joseph Henry lives in Sun City West, Ariz., and has been a widower since 1997.

 

’50 Don’t miss it! Your 50th reunion will be celebrated Oct. 13-15, 2000. Ed Kohlmeier, a member of the Exchange Clubs of South Orange County and Orange Coast, was re-elected as a regional vice president of The National Exchange Club at their national convention in July.

 

’52 Donald Cook, a pediatric physician, received congratulations and commendation from the Colorado Senate for his lifelong service and many contributions to the state. * A new YMCA that opened in Denver in June was named after Sue Schlessman Duncan. Sue has been involved with the Metropolitan Denver YMCA for 35 years, 25 of those as a board member. * Charles "Carky" Rubens represented Colorado College at the inauguration of Walter Harrison as the fifth president of the University of Hartford in April.

 

’53 Jane Wallace Dillard is building a straw bale house just west of Cortez, Colo. She hopes to be living there permanently by spring. * Phyllis Ridge Gill received the 1999 Ruth Wheeler Sustainer of the Year Award from The Junior League of Tacoma, Wash. A dedicated volunteer, she serves on numerous boards and committees in the Tacoma area.

 

’55 Karen McCorkle Consolini is retired and living in New York.

 

’57 Bob Hendee lives in Austin, Texas, where he "remains busy in volunteer activities," including serving as chair of the Tri-City Child Welfare Board and president-elect (and current board member) of Prevent Child Abuse-Texas. He helps out at the Austin Children’s Shelter every Thursday. * In July, Lem Scarbrough and his wife, Frances, spent 10 days cruising the Mississippi River in a paddle-wheeler boat.

 

’58 Bill Manning is CEO of Independent Packers Corp. in Seattle. * Glenn Nelson is the director of community affairs for the Rockland County Executive Office in New City, N.Y.

’59 James Douglass and Katherine Woodard were married June 3 in Colorado Springs. They remarried each other after 23 years of divorce.

 

’60 Morey Hecox and Page Thompson Tredennick ’75 have collaborated in creating the Cook Street School of Fine Cooking in the LoDo area of Denver.

 

’61 Anthony Sellitto is the athletics director and basketball coach at Hawaii Pacific University. He is one of the state’s premier men’s basketball coaches with a record of 254-97 and a winning percentage of .724. His team will play Regis University in Denver and Colorado Christian in Lakewood, Colo., Nov. 19 and 20. He invites all of his friends from the area to attend.

’63 Jay Heminway owns the Green and Red Vineyard in St. Helena, Calif. * Ben Lewis, who retired in 1998 after 11 years with the Aurora, Colo., Chamber of Commerce, is now a volunteer leadership programs manager with the United Way. He and his wife, Barbara, have three married children and one granddaughter, all living in the Denver area. * Jerry Macon’s wife Carol writes, "Jerry has semi-retired himself and is now day-trading Internet stocks via – what else – the Internet, having placed a microwave dish for real-time quotes on the roof of our office building. If full retirement is worse than this, could somebody let me know now?" * Elizabeth Quint Mangerich and husband, Walter, have been married for 33 years. They have two daughters, both married, and one grandson. She is looking forward to retirement from Washington Elementary School in Woodburn, Ore., as a developmental skills specialist "to pursue who knows what?" * Stephanie Ames Manly and her husband, Neal, live in Shaker Heights, Ohio, where she is employed at the Cleveland House of Correction in the Cleveland Public Schools. * Marilyn Goldberg Markowitz maintains a painting studio in Four Mile Canyon in Boulder. * Lawrence McCarthy climbed Pikes Peak when he was 74 years old and again at 75. At 77 he had a total hip replacement and is doing well. He and his wife, Pattie, live in Caramillo, Calif., and eight of their 10 sons, their wives and kids live in the vicinity. "My short term goal is to climb Pikes Peak when I’m 80 in 2001. I’ll tell you, it’s the good life!" * Polly Franklin Mitchell teaches fourth grade at Oak Grove Elementary in San Antonio, Texas. In addition, she is president of the San Antonio Choral Society. Over the summer they performed "Calvillirea Rusticana" for the San Antonio Pocket Opera. She recently traveled to Japan to visit her daughter and to Seattle to visit her sister. * Kathie Bruce Murphy and husband Richard Pratt live in Santa Rosa, Calif., where she is owner of Kathie Murphy Interior Design Associates. "Richard and I and Isabel Williams Shanahan went to South Africa last August on an Elderhostel tour. We had a chance meeting with Nelson Mandela while we were visiting Parliament in Cape Town." * Ben and Jane Thompson Norris live in Apopka, Fla., where Ben is a manufacturer’s representative for Combustion Systems and Controls, Inc. * Beth Kendall O’Connor and her husband, Jim, live in Lakewood, Colo. * Jim Orban and his wife, Pat, live in Colorado Springs where he is a periodontist. * Malika Thomas Oudes is an elementary teacher in Tonasket, Wash. ’64 Nancy Kitzmiller Braun’s hobby is parasitology. Her husband, Clait, retired from the Colorado Division of Wildlife and set up office in Tucson, where they now live. * Nan Burton Burroughs, former congressional relations director at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, D.C., moved back to Colorado after 30 years of Congress-watching. She and Robert Repetto live in Boulder, where they intend to watch ski slopes, bike paths, mountain views and grandchildren. * Nancy Lindsley-Griffin is chair of the first Nebraska State Board of Geologists. She is a professor in the department of geosciences at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where she is also a faculty advisor for the Lincoln Chapter of the Association for Women Geoscientists. The association is developing the "Nebraska Rocks" program, a Girl Scout summer camp.

’65 Douglas Shaw is chief executive officer for Minnesota Healthcare Network in Minneapolis. * Hal Smith and Barbara Meissner were married Sept. 19, 1998, in Washington, Va. They live in Los Angeles, where Hal is a freelance photographer. * John Van Ness and Sandia Martinez were married Jan. 16. John is an associate vice president at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Penn.

 

’66 Clark Corbridge owns Corbridge Law Office in Pinedale, Wyo. * Tom Jervis retired two years ago from Los Alamos (N.M.) National Laboratory. He and wife, Carlyn Nelson Jervis ’67, remain active in conservation activities. Tom is president of the New Mexico Audubon Council and testified on forest management issues at a Senate hearing in Washington last summer. * Pete Susemihl received the Pikes Peak Range Riders’ 1999 Silver Spur Award, which honors the outstanding citizen of the community.

 

’67 Linda Lewis Bryson teaches ESL at Georgia Perimeter College in Dunwoody, Ga. * Andrew Love is commander of the Colorado Air National Guard at Buckley Air Base in Aurora.

 

’68 John Friesman is director of admissions and student affairs at the Keck Graduate Institute in Claremont, Calif. * As of July 1, Bart Mendenhall assumed the presidency of the Colorado Bar Association. He lives in Rocky Ford, where he is a partner in the firm Mendenhall & Malouff.* Millie Olson was on campus for a few days during Block 8 to teach in Professor Larry Stimpert’s marketing class. Millie is owner/partner of Amazon Advertising in San Francisco.

 

’69 Beth Corliss is director of personnel force development at the U.S. Air Force Headquarters at the Pentagon. She was promoted to senior executive service in April. * Rusty Griffith owns LVW Electronics in Colorado Springs. * Linda Holley is vice president of agency relations for Intrav, Inc., in St. Louis. * Marita Monroe Vickroy, a registered nurse, works for the V.A. Southern Colorado Health Care Systems in Ft. Lyon, Colo.

’71 Jeffrey Bull is president of Cork Life, Inc., in Westport, Mass. * Emily Estes and Roy McAlpine were married June 12 in Farmington, Conn. Roy is an independent management consultant and Emily works with her family business in Texas, volunteers for the non-profit development agency, World Neighbors, and has discovered a love for cooking. They would love to hear from friends. * Jennifer Moulton is director of planning and development for the city and county of Denver.

 

’72 Ted Archibald works in Aspen and is delighted to be back in Colorado. He and his wife, Gloria, have a son, Theo, who attends CC. They would enjoy hearing from friends. * Cornelia Ritchie Bivins runs the JA Cattle Co., in Amarillo, Texas. * James Goodman owns Why Not Music in Belmont, Calif. * Sylvia Sample-Moore is general manager of Holland Colors Americas in Richmond, Ind. Her son, Geoffrey, recently graduated from Denison University. * Iain Sherwood and Karen Winkler were married June 1 in Santa Barbara. Iain opened an art gallery, Gordon Murray Fine Arts Services, in Santa Barbara, which features paintings by contemporary Russian masters. He still runs Cuillinn Craft in San Leandro, makes jewelry and teaches the bagpipes.

’73 Jim Anderson was appointed Josiah Meigs Professor of Classics at the University of Georgia, where he has taught since 1980. The Meigs Professorship is the university’s highest award for excellence in teaching. * Sarah Andrews Brown received the 1999 Journalism Award from the American Associations of Petroleum Geologists. A former geologist for Amoco, Sarah has written four novels that use the oilfield as a backdrop. * William Milliken was awarded the Certified Commercial Investment Member designation by the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute. William lives in Ann Arbor, Mich., where he is with the Milliken Realty Company.

’74 Barron Beshoar is manager of information services at GAIAM, Inc., in Broomfield, Colo. * Tim Davis and Susan Garsoe were married July 26, 1997, in Cumberland, Maine. Tim teaches at Ruamrudee International School in Bangkok, Thailand. * Gil Frith reported that several alumni attended an event hosted by Joel Solomon at the Standard Club in Chicago in May. Joel hosted the governor of New Mexico and 154 prominent members of the New Mexico legislative and business community known as the "New Mexico Amigos." * John Kessel lives in Colorado Springs, where he is director for USA Volleyball. He travels around the country extensively with his job and was in Winnepeg, Manitoba for the Pan Am Games. * Flip Naumburg coached his Colorado State University club lacrosse team to a win in the 1999 men’s collegiate championship in St. Louis. He was also elected coach of the year. (Happily submitted by mom, Dorothy Sellner Naumburg ’44.) * Doug Palazzari lives in Colorado Springs, where he is the new executive director of USA Hockey. * Rich Staples is senior vice president responsible for Community Reinvestment Act and regulatory compliance for People’s Bancshares, Inc., in Providence, R.I.

 

’75 Mark your calendars! Your 25th reunion will be celebrated Oct. 13-15, 2000. Michael Hannigan, executive director of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation, received the tenth anniversary Special Partnership Award from CC’s Center for Community Service for his work on the Project Steering Committee of the Affordable Housing Project. The project works to preserve, rehabilitate and construct quality affordable housing in Colorado Springs. * Ruth Musgrave is director of the University of New Mexico’s Center for Wildlife Law at the School of Law. She lives outside Albuquerque with her husband, Dave Warren, and their children, Chase and Story. * Pauline Strong lives in Austin, where she is an associate professor of anthropology at the University of Texas. * Page Thompson Tredennick and Morey Hecox ’60 have collaborated in creating the Cook Street School of Fine Cooking in the LoDo area of Denver.

’76 Jennifer Jameson Dutton is a sabbatical replacement at Johnson County Community College doing academic, career and personal counseling. She does private work with individuals in meditation and imagery work. She lives in Overland Park, Kan., with her children, Chelsea and Jamie. * In July, after 24 years with The Gazette in Colorado Springs, Scott G. Smith left his job as a writer to pursue "new horizons." * Laurie Weinstein is an associate professor of anthropology at Western Connecticut State University. She lives in Danbury, Conn., with her six cats and three bunnies, and is learning wildlife rehabilitation in her spare time.

 

’77 Sandra Harmon Garcia lives in Santa Fe, where she makes pottery full time.

 

’78 Thomas Bloom is an ophthalmologist in Milwaukee, Wis., and was named chairman of the ophthalmology department at Columbia Hospital. He is also a clinical professor of ophthalmology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He and wife, Kim, live in Mequon with their two sons. They continue to have a wonderful friendship with Peter Lautmann, his wife, Sally, and their four daughters, who also live in Milwaukee. * Jo Ann Schneider Farris coordinates skating programs for students, faculty, staff and day camp at Honnen Ice Rink at CC, and is also an assistant skating director at the new ice arena at the Chapel Hills Mall. She lives in Colorado Springs with her husband, Dan, and their three children, Rebekah, Joel, and Annabelle. * Yvonne Richeal Vigil is an advertising manager with Gart Sports/Sportsmart in Denver. * Elizabeth Weil is doing her residency in psychiatry at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. After 20 years in Chicago, she’s happy to be back in the West.

 

’79 Karen Conway is the general manager of the day-to-day operations for the Independent, Colorado Springs’ alternative newspaper. * David Morrison, vice president of leasing for Brookfield Properties, was awarded the certified commercial investment member designation from the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute.

Heidi Cost Blake lives in Santa Fe, where she does bookings for family-owned condominiums and a hotel in Akumal, Mexico. * Diane Desenberg and Thomas Mawn live in Sarasota, Fla., and welcome classmates to e-write and/or visit. * Bernhard Gentsch works for Event Products Group, Ltd., in Wilmette, Ill. * Bill Jongeneel lives in London on the banks of the Thames in an old warehouse with views of Tower Bridge. He is an actor and is playing Werner Heisenberg in the play "Copenhagen," at the Duchess Theatre in the West End. * Kevin Kersey is district manager with Perford Products in West Chester, Ohio. * Bert Shepley is an independent human resources consultant in Huntington Beach, Calif., where he lives with his wife, Deborah, and their children, Kevin and Megan. * Anne Shutan lives in Boulder, "the Rockies beckoned." She continues to create furniture and sculpture and was in the April issue of Woodwork. She plays basketball regularly and hopes someday to teach a block at CC.

 

’81 John Borra is a pilot/writer/illustrator with Rans, Inc., in Hays, Kan., where he lives with his wife, Lucinda, and their son, Joseph. * Renato Buontempo visited with Professor Salvatore Bizzaro in Italy, where Renato lives and is an artist. He now goes by the name Shah Jahan. * Jill Paukert is a principal with Johnston Wells Public Relations in Denver. * Hans Thomsen is studying Japanese art and archaeology in the Ph.D. program at Princeton University. * Lincoln Quintana is senior partner in the Quintana Law Firm in Encinitas, Calif.

 

’82 Vince Bzdek and Kelsey French were married Jan. 16. * Anne Feiler is head of adult services at Koelbel Library in Littleton, Colo. * Gary Hale is the head coach for the women’s basketball team at Howard Community College in Columbia, Md. Last season was the first team in 10 years for the college and they "held their own" with a 3-17 record. Gary lives in Columbia with his wife, Alicia, and daughter, Maya. He also has two sons, Chris and Terrence. * Cathy Ives Laymon lives in Piedmont, Calif., with her husband, Gary and their two daughters.

 

’83 Dave Betts is a vice president/investment officer with Dain Rauscher Corp., in Chicago. * Laura Hershey received the 1998 President’s Committee on Employment with Disabilities Award. Laura lives in Denver, where she is the executive director of the Disability Center for Independent Living. She will be presented with the award at the White House some time this year. * Elizabeth Ring is an editor with the Bloomberg News in London. * Theodora Saal and Larry Gurwitch were married March 14 in New York. Alumnae in attendance were Rebecca Taggart and Mlada Bukovansky ’84. Theodora is a staff attorney with The Legal Aid Society in Kew Gardens, N.Y. * Diane Sherwood and husband Jeff Cocking live in Wichita, Kan., with their son, Will. She runs her own business, Kids First Communications.

 

’84 Earl Balcos is pursuing a graduate degree in dance at the University of Iowa. * Will Balthrope and Melissa Sherman were married Feb. 13, 1998, in Maui. They live in San Antonio, where Will is in the investment division at Grubb & Ellis. * Mike Goldrosen was on campus April 30 as a panelist at the sociology department luncheon. Mike is client services manager for the Boston Public Health Commission. * Rich Mullen and Barbara Fingzies were married October 1998. Rich is a software engineer at Microsoft in Redmond, Wash.

 

’85 Buck Blessing was selected as one of Colorado Springs "40 Achievers Under 40" by the Colorado Springs Business Journal. Buck is CEO of Griffis/Blessing, Inc. * Gary Desjardins is product director with Vistakon in Jacksonville, Fla. * Messmore Kendall lives in Ridgway, Colo., with his wife, Barbara, and their son, Marten. * Sarah Law and Paul Whistler were married Sept. 19, 1998, in Durango, Colo. Alumni in attendance were Dee Dee Carlson ’78, Lisa Peterson ’84 and Ted Craig ’87, Paul Schmidt ’84, Kathy Malone Koski and Martha Law ’91. They live in Durango, where Sarah is the elected district attorney for the Sixth Judicial District of Colorado. * Justin Magruder reported that he and Steve Kellam have incorporated their Web design and software development firm, Dana/Scott Studios L.L.C., in New York. * Andy Peabody and Hanna Steffian ’86 were married Sept. 27, 1997. Andy is a national sales and marketing manager with Swiss Army Brands in Shelton, Conn. Hanna is a freelance graphic designer, and runs Hanna Steffian Graphics out of their home in Roxbury. * Pamela Riney-Kehrberg is an associate professor of history at Illinois State University in Normal, Ill. * Anne Smith is president of AFS Specialty Foods in Laramie, Wyo.

 

’86 Bonnie Bertram lives in Atlanta, where she is a producer at CNN. * Debra Degginger Bradley is a performer at the Country Dinner Playhouse in Englewood, Colo. She is also a certified personal trainer. * Owen Perkins is an arts and entertainment writer with the Independent, Colorado Springs’ alternative newspaper. * Daniel Pierce is a professor of chemistry/biochemistry at Montana State University in Bozeman, where he lives with his wife, Yvonne, and their son, Colin. * Glenn Primack is a financial analyst with Fiduciary Management, Inc., in Milwaukee, Wisc. * Sherry Masoudi Sommer attends a master’s program in teaching English as a second language in Boulder, where she lives with her husband, Henrik, and their son, Samuel.

 

’87 Jennifer Moran Agarwal is busy fixing up their "new" old home in Glen Ridge, N.J., and trying to adjust to life on the East Coast. She and husband, Brijesh, have two children, Nathan and Meghan. * Greg Kazemi is an emergency physician at St. Pat’s Hospital in Missoula, Mont., where he lives with his wife, Kim, and their daughters, Ruby, Ava and Georgia. * Steve McDougal is manager of strategic development for CNET, Inc., in San Francisco. He lives in Mill Valley with his wife, Jan, and their son, Kevin. * Dorothy Pacheco and Brad Nichols were married April 18, on Flat Top Mountain in British Columbia. * Jennifer Sincero performs with The Jenny Clinkscales Band which is planning a U.S. tour "as soon as we get a van."

 

’88 Angie Dallas-Pedretti is a patent agent with Sheridan Ross P.C., in Denver. * John Dana is a staff scientist/Engineer 1 at Arcadis Geraghty & Miller in Denver. He lives in Westminster with his wife, Polly, and their children, Nathan and Henry. * After nine years of teaching kindergarten and four years counseling violent offenders, Lorie Nelan Fernald is now home full-time with daughters, Sophia and Isabel. Husband, Doug ’89, is a medical anthropologist for the department of family medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. * Greg Griffin is the weekend business editor at The Denver Post. * Katy McNitt Jensen works for Lerner Publishing Group in Minneapolis and spends one day a week volunteering at the Minnesota Zoo. She and husband, Rod, spend any spare time renovating their house. * Debbie Kerns Lynch and husband, Mike, live in Aurora, Colo., where Debbie is a full-time mom, caring for their son, Jack. * Helen Marine and James Law were married Oct. 17, 1998, in Santa Barbara. * Darren Schulte is the field operations merchandising coordinator for Petro Stopping Centers, Inc., in El Paso, Texas, where he lives with his wife, Bernadette, and their sons, Adrian and Gabriel. * Julia Sterling participated in the alumni dance concert held July 24 on campus. * Michael Weed is a post-doctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore. * Bob Zadalis and Michele Cornay were married May 30, 1998. Karen is a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. * Tim Coit and Emily Payne were married Aug. 9, 1998, in Shove Chapel. Alumni in attendance were Tom and Pam Warden Coit ’63, Ed ’66 and Sharon Coit ’68 Johnson, Tad ’87 and Chalane Hayward ’88 Coit and Ted Christianson ’89. Tim teaches at Sierra Middle School in Parker, Colo. * Nina Farquhar teaches Spanish and art for the Palouse School District in Palouse, Wash. She and Rich Reese ’88 live in Moscow, Idaho, where Rich is pursuing a master’s degree in architecture at the University of Idaho. * Guy Gadowsky is the new head coach of the men’s hockey team at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. * John Gillis is in his second year of residency at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, Colo. ’99 Reed Bargren is a staff member of therewewere, a new cultural adventure magazine. Staff members will participate in a three-month "race" from Nepal to the Canary Islands and will use Telmails, mini-typewriters, to dictate their adventures back to the publisher. The magazine will be published bi-monthly beginning in January 2000 and will contain articles about staff members' adventures. * Verdel Baskin joined Teach for America. Professor Don Shearn reports that a great time was had by all who attended a gathering at his apartment in San Francisco in March. In attendance were alumni and former students of Don’s physiological psychology course, including Susan Ryan ’77, who is in the Department of Anesthesiology at University of California-San Francisco; David Nichol ’78, a local psychiatrist; Jamie Taylor ’87, owner of a software company that analyzes behavior on the Internet; Kelley Yost Abrams ’93, who is completing her Ph.D. in developmental psychology at the University of California-Berkeley; and Jenny Barba ’98, who is doing neuroscience research on Parkinson’s disease.
