’41 Georgiana Monaco Kennedy is proud to report that after 60 years, she earned her bachelor’s degree in May from the University of New Mexico, having initially enrolled as a student at CC in 1938. After 58 years of marriage, eight children and a successful Indian crafts business, she did it. Congratulations, Georgiana!

’49 Norma Peterson has a scholarship named in her honor at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo., where she taught history from 1953 to 1984. She was honored as emerita professor of history upon her retirement. The Dr. Norma Peterson History Scholarship was first awarded in the fall 1997 semester.

’53 Bob Roades retired as an English professor in 1988 and now works as a jazz musician in the group "Tune Town." He also reports that in the past four years he has published poems as well as several articles. * Janet Clemens Schoepflin stopped by the alumni office in July during a visit to campus with friends Alex, Marianna, Susie and Toni Kremer. Janet met the Kremers while teaching in the English department at the University of Szeged in Hungary, where Marianna also taught. Janet lives in Red Feather Lakes, Colo.* Barbara Neeley Yalich, former CC vice president for development and college relations, is serving on a 24-person board of advisors for the Pikes Peak United Way.

She reports having a delightful reunion with Nancy Ellis Keith in Albuquerque last August. * Joyce Shabouh Cann is an elementary teacher with School District 11 in Colorado Springs. * James Coil chairs the department of surgery at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Staten Island. ’61 Glenna Maxey Goodacre created a sculpture depicting former President Ronald Reagan for the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center’s permanent collection. The 7-foot tall bronze sculpture was unveiled during the 37th annual Western Heritage Awards in April. Ronald Reagan is an honorary director of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.

 

’62 Dave Furgason is the new president of the Denver Bar Association. Dave is a litigator in civil, employment and general business matters. * Robert Nelson lives in Seneca, S.C., where he is retired and active in vintage sports car racing. * Reuben Trinidad is a management technology consultant with Trinidad and Associates in Dana Point, Calif. He retired in the summer of ’97 after 32 years in education as a teacher, high school principal and superintendent.

 

’63 Eleanor Jones Brown is owner of Fox Hill Office Products in Overland Park, Kan. She and husband, Larry, have two sons. * Wendy Millard Benjamin is an archaeological ceramic analyst in Durango, Colo. * Elizabeth Rouse Cahill enjoys skiing and hiking in her retirement in Durango, Colo. * Charles Campbell writes from Colorado Springs, "I’ve been practicing architecture long enough to have had one of my buildings torn down!" * Sue Olds Carr, who is an educational diagnostician, plans on retiring after this next school year. Her children are grown and on their own and she plans on doing something completely different. * Brad Chase is the senior vice president and director of fixed income trading for D.E. Frey Co., Inc., in Denver. * Tony Cherin is professor of finance at San Diego State University. He summarizes his career path as Navy-real world-M.B.A.- Ph.D.-teaching/research/consulting. He has one son and one adorable granddaughter. He’s "hangin’ in there." * Linda Haneborg Griffis is a marketing development manager for a financial services firm in Tequesta, Fla. She and her husband, Bill, have three sons: two consultants and a stockbroker. * Ann McFadden Tucker is owner of the Allen Layton Group in Scottsdale, Ariz. Her daughter, Morgan, is a ninth grader. This increases the number of prints from Tom’s various portfolios in the Library’s permanent collection to 38.

The society was founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1743. * Laurel McLeod, current vice president for student life at CC, is serving on a 24-person board of advisors for the Pikes Peak United Way. * Larry Newman is an attorney in private practice in Dallas. When he isn’t working, he enjoys painting and playing in two local bands. He adds that pursuing his music and art full time "would be a dream come true, and as there becomes more competition in the law field, who knows." * James Price is the deputy commanding general of the 89th Regional Support Command in Wichita, Kan. In civilian life, he teaches mathematics and is chair of the mathematics department at Wichita High School East.

 

’70 Deen Buttorff lives in Cherry Hills Village, Colo., with his wife and their two sons. They spent 13 months building a home on the 17th tee of a Pete Dye golf course. He writes that his family has "a true passion for the game, so we just did it!" * Victoria Hay King lives in Altamonte Springs, Fla., where she reports she has "no kids and lots of pets."

 

’71 Reed Kelley is running for Colorado’s Third Congressional district seat in the November general election. Reed is the co-owner/manager of Sullivan Kelley Farms in Meeker, Colo. * Jean Nash was promoted to training manager at Client Server Solutions, a consulting firm for Platinum Software, in Atlanta. She has a two-year-old granddaughter, Isabella.

 

’72 Jim Fergus held a booksigning in Colorado Springs for "One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd." * Eileen McIlvain lives in Empire, Colo., and works at the Program for the Advancement of Geoscience Education, a program of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in Boulder. * Rusty Moen is a commander of the 939th Reserve Wing of the U.S. Air Force Reserve in Portland. He lives in Vancouver, Wash., with his wife, Barb, and daughters, Krys and Jackie. * Sally Oosterhous was diagnosed with M.S. in 1988, and is still doing administrative work in children’s behavioral health care at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. David, a professor of political science at Colorado College, is one of the foremost experts in his field in the nation. * Robert Palmer is director of state affairs with the American Academy of Ophthalmology in San Francisco.

 

’76 Tom Donelan reports that after contracting as a tax analyst with Levi Strauss & Co. for eight years, he succumbed to their desires to have him as an employee. He moved from New Mexico to San Francisco, where he continues to remain active with Drops of Raw, a community building and fund-raising organization that serves the gay and lesbian community. * Chalyce Robuck Hart is a senior financial advisor with American Express Financial Advisors in Flagstaff, Ariz. * Ross Koplin is a self-employed attorney in Denver. * Mark Meyer is a rector at Christ Episcopal Church in Canon City, Colo. ’98 William Baxter, Benjamin Cope, Peter Enns, B.J. Hach, Gregory Hoge and Jodi Shields have been selected to join Teach For America, the national teacher corps, where they will spend the next two years teaching in America’s most under-resourced urban and rural public schools. * Teya Gamble embarked on a cross-continental bike trip from British Columbia to Maine to raise money for the Global Fund for Women. She and friend, Andrew Hardy, began the journey in June and estimated it would take about four months to complete the 3,500-mile trip. * Chris Gibson and Kim Silver both received two-year internships as Fellows at the El Pomar Foundation in Colorado Springs. * Camulous Hornsby and Erin Middleton were married June 13.
