"What Is the Business of Politics According to Machiavelli?”

David Wootton is Anniversary Professor of History at the University of York. He will speak on Machiavelli's legacy on the occasion of the 500 year anniversary of the publication of "The Prince."

Professor Wootton works on the intellectual and cultural history of the English speaking countries, Italy, and France, 1500-1800. He is currently writing a book on the scientific revolution to be published by Penguin in the UK, HarperCollins in the US, and Piper in Germany. His most recent book is "Galileo: Watcher of the Skies," published by Yale University Press.

He was educated at Oxford and Cambridge, and has held positions in history and politics at four British and four Canadian universities, and visiting positions in the US, before coming to York.
