Lisa Marie Rollins joined the Department of Theater and Dance in 2020 as Assistant Professor of Acting and Directing. She is a freelance theater director, writer and new play developer. She is a Sundance Institute Theatre Lab Fellow (Directing), a Directors Lab West member and Associate member of Stage Directors and Choreographers. Regional directing and dramaturg work include Hedgebrook Women's Play Festival, Crowded Fire Theater, American Conservatory Theatre MFA program (ACT-SF), Playwright Foundation, TheatreFirst, Berkeley Repertory Theater (Ground Floor), Shotgun Players, Custom Made Theatre, Magic Theatre, San Francisco Playhouse, TheatreWorks Colorado Springs; new plays by Lauren Gunderson, Geetha Reddy, Idris Goodwin, Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm, Jessica Huang and creative collaborations with comedic artists W. Kamau Bell and Zahra Noorbakash. She has been a writing fellow with Hedgebrook, Djerassi, SF Writers Grotto, CALLALOO London, VONA, Just Theater Play Lab and Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency. She is currently developing her new play LOVE IS ANOTHER COUNTRY. She holds an M.A. from Claremont Graduate University in Cultural Studies and an M.A. from University of California, Berkeley in African Diaspora Studies. She is a "Bay Brilliant" artist honoree from San Francisco's KQED and received a Wallace Gerbode Special Award in the Arts in 2019. She is currently a Resident Artist with Crowded Fire Theater and Artist-in-Residence at BRAVA Theater for Women in San Francisco.
