Erik Rieger ’12
Assistant Editor and Art Director, The American Alpine Journal and Accidents in North American Mountaineering
At CC, I began writing for and producing the Colorado College Alpine Journal as a way to fuse my passions for writing and climbing. Upon graduation, landing a position at the American Alpine Club was a dream realized. While I mostly pursued a philosophy major, I took classes in a wide variety of disciplines, which allowed me to go into my job confident in my editing, writing, research, and creative skills. Outside of class, block breaks allowed me to go anywhere imaginable every three weeks. Over those four years, the Rocky Mountains and Desert Southwest became my home and playground—I still call it home today. Even a couple years out of school, I still help students produce the Colorado College Alpine Journal, hoping it will continue to foster deep community among students and alumni.
