Class of 2021 - Claire Rosenberg

My capstone project, A Contemporary View on the History of Chicago House Music, focuses on the often-overlooked history of Chicago House Music. Created in the early 1980s, House Music emerged within primarily Black and gay crowds in Chicago and the dance clubs that served as safe havens from the threats of racism and homophobia. My goal is to create music inspired by the sounds of original house music while also raising awareness about its history. I recognize that my positionality is different from those who created House Music in the 1980s and would like to acknowledge my privilege in being able to work on this project.
