Summer 2020 is Colorado College’s first year of offering a four-week summer program accommodating 6th to 8th grade students needing additional academic support in reading and writing. In addition to the intensive academic support students receive throughout the four week camp students will work on group and individual projects to promote their self-advocacy skills.
Students will attend a three-hour session each day. The daily schedule will consist of fun activities and team building skills on Colorado College’s campus and the local area. Academic skills include: phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and fluency. Executive function skills such as organization and time management will also be practiced to help students meet the new challenges of middle school and high school.
The lead instructor is a former secondary English teacher experienced in literacy education and a graduate of Colorado College's Literacy Specialist Master of Arts in Teaching program. The pupil-to-teacher ratio is capped at 8:1 to encourage greater individualization and small group interaction.

Application Instructions and Deadline
Early Application Deadline: March 16, 2020. After that date applications will continue to be accepted until classes are full.
Please fill out one application per child. Do not apply unless your child can attend the entire 4 week program. As part of the application process, the family and if applicable, the child's teacher, will be asked to complete a questionnaire regarding the child's learning needs.
Acceptance to the overall program will be confirmed after receipt of the questionnaire response(s). Once the questionnaire is completed, you will receive a link to schedule a 20-minute assessment for your child with a LEAP Program teacher on Saturday, April 25, 2020. Attendance on the assessment day is mandatory as it will facilitate your child's placement into the group most appropriate to their learning needs.
Students will be placed in small groups of up to four children with similar learning needs. The program director reserves the right to adjust class rosters as needed depending on enrollment levels.
Tuition, Financial Assistance, and Refund Policy
Tuition for the Colorado College LEAP Summer Program is $800, which includes a $25 non-refundable registration fee. 10% of your full-price tuition covers scholarships for kids in need of financial assistance.
Once your child's acceptance into the program is confirmed, an initial tuition payment in an amount of your choosing is due by May 1, unless you have requested scholarship assistance. The full tuition balance is due by June 1.
We are delighted to offer financial assistance to those learners in need. Our financial assistance is based on whether a child is receiving free or reduced lunch at school. Please note: You must provide evidence that your child is on free or reduced lunch. Evidence can be documentation from the school district, or a letter from the building principal. All information will remain confidential and any hardcopies will be shredded after the program is under way.
If your child is not able to attend due to unforeseen circumstances, please submit your request before May 25 for a refund of tuition paid, less the $25 registration fee.
