Is your child struggling to learn letter names and sounds, or showing very little interest in books and reading? Are you concerned he or she may not be ready to start school? Come LEAP into school readiness with us!
Summer 2020 is Colorado College’s first year of offering this four-week readiness skills program for students entering kindergarten or first grade in August. The purpose of this program is to equip young children with certain fundamental skills to promote early literacy. In addition, we’d like to partner with parents and guardians to inform them of the importance of these skills and offer them tools to continue the learning throughout the summer and into their children’s early school years.
Students will attend one hour-long session per day. Each day, students will participate in fun and engaging activities in the areas of phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, and fine and gross motor skills. Each Friday, we encourage parents/guardians to meet with teachers to discuss the week’s activities, relevance, and how to incorporate similar activities into daily life at home. The program runs mornings for 4 weeks in June, Mon.-Fri.
The staff consists of local teachers experienced in literacy education, including graduates of Colorado College's Literacy Specialist Master of Arts in Teaching program. The pupil-to-teacher ratio is capped at 4:1 to encourage greater individualization and small group interaction.

Application Instructions and Deadline
Early Application Deadline: March 16, 2020. After that date applications will continue to be accepted until classes are full.
Please fill out one application per child. Do not apply unless your child can attend the entire 4 week program. As part of the application process, the family and if applicable, the child's teacher, will be asked to complete a questionnaire regarding the child's learning needs. Children must be at least four years old by January 1, 2020 to participate.
Acceptance to the overall program will be confirmed after receipt of the questionnaire response(s). Once the questionnaire is completed, you will receive a link to schedule a 20-minute assessment for your child with a LEAP Program teacher on Saturday, April 25, 2020. Attendance on the assessment day is mandatory as it will facilitate your child's placement into the group most appropriate to their learning needs.
Students will be placed in small groups of up to four children with similar learning needs. The program director reserves the right to adjust class rosters as needed depending on enrollment levels.
Tuition, Financial Assistance, and Refund Policy
Tuition for the Colorado College LEAP Summer Program is $800, which includes a $25 non-refundable registration fee. 10% of your full-price tuition covers scholarships for kids in need of financial assistance.

We are pleased to offer financial assistance to those learners in need. Our financial assistance is based on whether a child is receiving free or reduced lunch at school. All information will remain confidential and any hardcopies will be shredded after the program is under way.
