All hour-long workshops are 45 mins of instruction with 15 mins of supported work time and questions. During the fall, all workshops will take place during week 2 of each block.

360 Media Capture
The 360 media capture workshop will showcase GoPro’s Fusion 360-degree camera and related editing software. Getting the footage is the easy-part, but then what? This workshop will not only show how to capture footage, but more importantly what to do with it once you’ve got it. After exploring GoPro’s Fusion Studio and Adobe Premiere’s VR plug-in for 360-view, you will be able share a 360-degree video on YouTube and other like platforms in no time. No prior experience is required.
The 3D Scanning workshop is an introduction into the world of 3D scanning. You will gain an understanding of the basic techniques involved in getting a good scan for model editing and 3D printing. The workshop will cover how to take a scan using an iPad scanner, the applications involved, what to do with the file and the various ways you can showcase your scan. No prior experience is required.
Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (Meghan Rubenstein)
This 30-minute Nano-workshop on Adobe Acrobat Pro covers some of the program’s most useful tools for creating and editing PDFs. Learn how to combine separate files into a single PDF, modify text, extract images, crop, rotate, and reorder pages, annotate a document, export pages to PowerPoint, and more!
Adobe Drawing Tools (Chris Bittner and Meghan Rubenstein)
Adobe Drawing Tools is a loosely structured workshop that offers participants the chance to try out a number of drawing tools in Illustrator and Photoshop. We will share tips and tricks to push the limits of your favorite pens and brushes plus introduce new tools available in the most recent version of the Creative Cloud. Participants will also have the opportunity to work with Wacom drawing tablets. No prior experience with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop is necessary.
Apps I Can't Live Without (Chris Bittner)
Apps I Can’t Live Without (AICLW) is a new Nano-workshop (30-min) where we’ll introduce desktop and mobile apps we find useful and exciting. Three apps will be highlighted in each Q&A style session. Bring the apps you can’t live without and share!
Audio and Video for Interviews (Chris Bittner)
This hands-on workshop will explore three-point lighting and the techniques for getting great audio in a studio interview setting. We’ll set up lights and microphones and take turns interviewing each other while learning the skills for producing professional results. No prior experience is required.
Audio Editing in Adobe Premiere Pro CC (Chris Bittner)
The Audio in Premiere Pro CC workshop will focus on the process and techniques of editing audio within a Premiere project. Participants will be provided with a pre-made video timeline and then learn the steps to get the best sounding audio mix. This tutorial will show how to adjust overall gain levels for each clip before making finer adjustments with the volume “rubber band” tool. The workshop will touch on the use of compression and EQ to get a more unified overall volume and realistic sounding clarity. Some prior experience with Adobe Premiere Pro is recommended but not required.
Digital Art (Meghan Rubenstein)
Digital Art is designed to spark new ideas about how computer software can be used during the creative process and/or to produce digital works of art. This tutorial will begin with a discussion on the primary differences between Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, followed by hands-on activities that will allow participants to try out a number of tools. The workshop will cover freehand drawing using pens and brushes, working with the perspective grid, manipulating photos, managing layers, and turning hand drawnimages into vector files. Basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is recommended.
Intermediate Adobe Photoshop (Meghan Rubenstein)
Intermediate Photoshop will help participants acquire the skills needed to push digital photo editing to the next level. Using Adobe Photoshop and Bridge, we will explore how to modify photos in Camera Raw, touch up images using the Clone Stamp and Spot Healing Brush, correct distortion, stack images for a greater depth of field, and create Masks, which can be used to remove backgrounds or modify select portions of an image. Basic Adobe Photoshop knowledge is recommended.
Introduction to Adobe Audition (Chris Bittner)
Introduction to Adobe Audition is a workshop focused on Adobe Creative Cloud’s audio recording and editing software. This tutorial is meant to give participants an overview of the interface, tools, and techniques for creating quality film, podcast, and music audio. Users will be introduced to the Multitrack workspace, Waveform editor, and Effects Rack as they learn to make the most out of their audio within this very capable editing platform. The workshop will touch on the use of compression and EQ to get a more unified overall volume and realistic sounding clarity. No prior experience with Adobe Audition is required.
Introduction to Adobe Spark (Chris Bittner)
The Introduction to Adobe Spark workshop will introduce participants to Adobe Creative Cloud’s free graphic design app for creating impactful social graphics, web stories and animated videos. Spark is possibly the easiest and fastest way to create professional social media posts, interactive and responsive web pages for all devices, and beautifully designed video within minutes! This tutorial will walk participants through each of Spark’s three design areas and encourage the creation of a simple social post, web page, and video – all within the hour! No kidding! No prior experience with Adobe Spark is necessary.
Introduction to iMovie (Chris Bittner)
Introduction to iMovie will showcase the simplicity of Apple’s video editing software, created for the casual user, who needs a video edited yesterday. If you need to produce a video essay or presentation but don’t have time for lunch with Steven Spielberg, this tutorial will introduce the simple workspace and powerful tools that make iMovie the perfect tool for editing quality video without the T-Rex sized learning curve. No prior experience with iMovie is necessary.
Introduction to Adobe Illustrator (Meghan Rubenstein)
Introduction to Illustrator will familiarize participants with the basic tools available in Adobe Illustrator, a vector graphics program best for creating freehand illustrations, logos, and diagrams. Unlike Photoshop, Illustrator files can be resized without loosing resolution, making them ideal for a wide range of projects. In this tutorial, participants will draw shapes and lines using paths, work with alignment and replication tools, and get inventive with text. Introduction to Illustrator is designed for the beginner. No prior experience with Adobe Illustrator is necessary.
Introduction to Adobe InDesign (Meghan Rubenstein)
Introduction to InDesign will familiarize participants with the basic tools available in this powerful layout and design program. If you want to create books, portfolios, posters, brochures, or any other product that integrates text and image, Adobe InDesign might be the software for you. In this tutorial, we will begin by exploring the workspace, then walk through the steps to produce both a poster and a multi-page document. No prior experience with Adobe InDesign is necessary.
Introduction to Adobe Photoshop: Managing and Editing Images (Meghan Rubenstein)
Introduction to Photoshop will familiarize participants with the basic editing tools available in Adobe Photoshop and Bridge. In addition to learning how to crop, rotate, resize, and recolor images, we will practice embedding copyright and other information directly into files. This tutorial will be especially useful for individuals trying to manage a portfolio of work or who are in the process of assembling a collection of images for a research project. Introduction to Photoshop is designed for the beginner. No prior experience with Adobe Photoshop or Bridge is necessary.
Introduction to Adobe Premiere Pro CC (Chris Bittner)
Introduction to Adobe Premiere Pro CC will introduce participants to the editing workspace and tools, the process of editing, and the steps for exporting final video. This tutorial will show how to convert raw video and import it into Premiere. Users will create a simple project from provided material and edit multiple layers of video and audio. Participants will create overlay text and learn to adjust fonts, scale, opacity, and motion. The workshop will walk users through the process of exporting a final video – choosing the optimal settings for audio and picture. No prior experience with Adobe Premiere Pro is necessary.
Introduction to After Effects (Chris Bittner)
This workshop explores the industry standard motion graphics software from Adobe. After Effects is used for animating text, graphics, composites, and so much more. We’ll focus on the basics to get you started and point you toward resources that will help you develop bigger motion graphic muscle. Prior experience with video editing software is suggested.
Introduction to Premiere Rush (Chris Bittner)
Introducing the all new Adobe Premiere Rush app for creating and sharing online videos. We’ll dive in together to look at the built-in camera functionality, editing tools, and social sharing features. Would you like to create quick slick videos without the hassle of a full-blown professional grade app like Premiere Pro? This should be a fun one. No prior experience is required.
Introduction to Pro Tools (Chris Bittner)
Introduction to Pro Tools is designed to introduce participants to the film industry standard digital audio workstation software. Avid’s Pro Tools can be found in every major film and recording studio on the planet as well as home studios and in several locations around the Colorado College campus. Participants will learn the editing and mixing workspaces along with the simple, yet powerful tools and tricks of the Pro Tools experience. No prior experience with Pro Tools is necessary.
Mobile Podcasting (Chris Bittner)
The Mobile Podcasting workshop will introduce participants to the Backpack Studio mobile podcasting app. We’ll discuss planning, scripting, and pre-production of media for use in a live podcast. Learn how to stop and create a professional sounding podcast from anywhere, anytime using only your phone. No prior experience is required.
Phun with Photoshop (Chris Bittner)
In this workshop we’re going to play with Photoshop like the big toy that it is. We’ll learn tools and techniques for creating unreal worlds and composites – if you can imagine it we can probably help you create it! Check out a couple of our more recent posts on Instagram for examples. @ccmedialab Some Photoshop experience helps but is not required.
SketchUp Pro (Meghan Rubenstein)
SketchUp Pro will give participants a chance to try out 3D modeling on the computer. In addition to learning how to use the program's basic tools, you will learn how to import models from the 3D Warehouse (an amazing library of user-contributed models) and experiment with designing a structure on a specific terrain using Google Earth. No prior experience with SketchUp or other 3D modeling program is required.
Typography (Meghan Rubenstein)
Make your words into powerful graphics. Typography will introduce participants to tools in Illustrator and Photoshop that can be used to produce a meaningful identity. This tutorial will cover the basics, including how to work with typeface, spacing, size, alignment, and orientation, as well as more advanced type modifications. Through a series of exercises we will consider how to balance legibility with originality. We will also discuss how to go about creating a unique font. No prior experience with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop is necessary.
