General Requirements

The Academic Program at Colorado College is designed to provide a broad liberal arts education.

Art students major in art with a concentration in either art history or art studio, but they also do considerable coursework (four courses) in the other area. Senior majors are expected to undertake substantive independent work which results in a thesis in art history or an exhibition of their work in art studio.  Majors should understand the relationship between works of art and their historical contexts. Each major is required to write a thesis that demonstrates her/his ability to examine an art historical problem, to carry out independent research and analysis and to express the results in a literate manner. In addition, during senior seminar, all senior art majors spend a week in New York with faculty to visit museums, galleries and meet with alumni. We also offer courses abroad in locations such as Paris, Spain, and parts of Asia.
