A study of German cinema of the post-war era, including more contemporary films. Discussions and films shown will reflect the concerns of a younger generation of filmmakers, including coming to terms with the legacy of the Third Reich in such films as 'The Murderers are Amongst Us,' 'The Tin Drum,' and 'The Nasty Girl,' the 'New German Cinema' of Fassbinder, Wenders and Herzog; and alternative points of view by women and gay filmmakers such as Dorrie, von Trotta and von Praunheim. Readings and discussions are in English. All films have English subtitles. (Offered alternate years.) No prerequisites. (Not offered 2016-17).
