    ED121 – Youth Empowerment

    In this extended format course, students will analyze issues facing youth in the community to create meaningful sociopolitical transformation by empowering youth to become the agents of change. Our primary topics include youth agency, homelessness, sexuality, immigration, racism and allyhood, and juvenile justice. This course also offers students an opportunity to model implementation of youth empowerment by having students take a leadership role in course development, teaching, and assessment. In this Community Based Learning (CBL) class, students will research the effectiveness of programs created to counteract the negative influences on youth while working in a community organization in Colorado Springs. (Not offered 2019-20).

    Prerequisite: Prior direct service with K-12 aged students through a college or community organization in Colorado Springs.
