CL221 – The Invention of History

The Greeks "invented" history in the sense of pioneering the genre of historical inquiry. This course will examine figures such as Herodotus and Thucydides who have been considered the world’s first historians. This course will also look at the ways of conceiving history and its relation to the peoples and periods explored.
