Physics in Your World

By focusing on how energy continually changes form, this course helps people with little or no background in the physical sciences to understand everyday phenomena, such as electricity, sounds (including the production of musical sounds), light, heat, motion, and more. Students will understand the differences between energy and force and momentum, and will appreciate the physical limitations on efficiency, on human motion, and on the consequences of collisions. All of this will be achieved mainly through simple, hands-on explorations. It is suitable for anyone who wants to understand basic electric circuits, weightlessness, high-speed braking distances, and the relevance of size in contact sports. Meets the Critical Perspectives: Scientific Investigation of the Natural World lab or field requirement. (Summer only 2022-23).
