Performance Studies

Examines new approaches to the study of performance drawn from sociology, anthropology, and media studies. Uses readings by scholars such as Diana Taylor, Richard Schechner, and Philip Auslander to analyze works by contemporary choreographers, theatre ensembles, and performance artists, as well as performances from everyday life, including concerts, festivals, and political protests. Attention also given to how performances construct race, gender, and nationality. (Not offered 2023-24).
