General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs, was a major benefactor to Colorado College and the building was named in his honor. See more about Palmer Hall, including details of an ongoing centennial renovation. Arguably the most beloved building on campus, Palmer is home to our history, political science, sociology, and economics departments, along with most of geology. It also features a common room on the top floor, which is used for guest lectures and special events. As you walk up the main staircase, notice a large wall plaque honoring General Palmer, and featuring in relief him and his trusty dog. In the last few decades, students have rubbed the dog's nose for good luck -- note that it is shiny from years of final exams and research papers.
