Professors from different departments often come together to team-teach a course, allowing students to approach a subject in multiple ways and with complementary methodologies. The college also offers a series of special programs and courses that are interdisciplinary by nature, and students may major or take elective courses in these areas. Some of the interdisciplinary majors include:

  • Neuroscience
  • Feminist and Gender Studies
  • Asian studies
  • Environmental science
  • History and philosophy

Requirements

The curriculum is grounded in the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences. To ensure that our students receive a well-rounded education, we require:

  • All courses required for chosen major
  • A distribution of courses that represents various cultures and perspectives as well as disciplines.
  • Basic competency in a foreign language (two blocks elementary or the equivalent).
  • FYE – a first-year, introductory, two-block course offered in almost every department

The Honor System

The academic honor system is an essential part of the Colorado College program. Under the honor system, students pledge honesty in all academic situations. The honor system is based on trust and maturity and reflects the academic values of the Colorado College community.

Photo of Tass Kelso helping students“Research questions don’t fit neatly into hour-long class segments. Students need sufficient time to explore ideas and follow through on them without being disrupted by a bell. The Block Plan gives them time to devote to pursuing ideas and independent research. It’s an enormous luxury that most other colleges don’t have. Our system also fosters interaction and research between students and faculty, so we can become colleagues and co-workers on an investigative team.”
