What every parent of a senior should know...

How time flies! Just yesterday, you were waving goodbye to your first-year student after having hauled clothing, bedding, family photos, and other items your student couldn't live without up and down too many stairs to count! Now, you are anticipating another exciting event in your student’s life and in your life...commencement. Before you order the graduation announcements and start thinking about turning that extra bedroom into an office, here are a few tips about how to support your student in the "home stretch."

Career and Transition Counseling

If your student has not yet visited the Colorado College Career Center, now is a great time to encourage your student to spend some free time there. Among their many services, the Career Center offers resume writing workshops, practical tips on job searches, and mock interviews with hands-on feedback from the center staff, volunteer alumni, and local business professionals. 

Credits to Graduate

Thirty-two (32) units are required for graduation. Depending on your student's major, there are also departmental graduation requirements. Encourage your student to check in with the registrar and with their academic advisor at the beginning of their senior year, as well as periodically after that, to make sure they are on track to graduate.

Commencement

Parents will receive email and posted notifications from the parent relations office concerning commencement between January and February of the student’s graduation year. Your student will also receive regular communications from the college concerning commencement preparation.

Insurance: Protection Against the Unexpected

CC’s alumni association provides an alumni insurance program in partnership with Meyers and Associates, offering $5,000 of complimentary life insurance up to one year after graduation. After the first year, graduates have the choice of converting the $5,000 to a low cost $25,000 policy. Meyers and Associates also offers health, property and casualty, travel, and pest insurance at low cost.
