CS 200 1310 Classroom Assignment: Barnes 407 This course looks to hip hop as a critically important lens for examining wider social relations and processes such as race, class, gender, and sexuality. It examines the ways hip hop is implicated in contemporary debates on media effects, commercialization, youth violence, globalization, and youth politics. The aim of the course is to provide a nuanced understanding of an expressive form like hip hop, a sense of how youth culture both reflects and shapes existing social relations. Prerequisites: None.
