Topics in Studio Arts: Book Arts and Letterpress

1 CC unit (4 semester hours). One humanities credit.

Classroom Assignment: The Press at Colorado College

Students in this course will learn the foundational skills in book arts. Students will become familiar with conceptual design, materials, and structure of the book while learning binding techniques, typographic principles, setting and printing lead type by hand, creating images from photopolymer, printing on a Vandercook proof press, and editioning. Students will develop their own book project from concept to finished edition. Harmony between image text, and structure will be stressed, and the recent history of the book arts will be covered.

Program fee (in addition to tuition): $85
Prerequisites: None. Enrollment is limited to 10 students. A non-refundable $100 course deposit is required to enroll in this class. The deposit will be credited to your final tuition payment.
