How does a Colorado College education contribute
to success? Perhaps the greatest benefit of
a liberal arts and sciences education from Colorado College is that
it helps make a well-rounded person: someone prepared for leadership
and life who can adapt to changes in our world because they’ve
had outstanding opportunities to learn and put their education to
use in a variety of settings.
What do our graduates think about
CC and how it prepared them for life after graduation? We at Colorado
College wanted to know, so we recently queried nearly 400 alumni
about their feelings, perceptions, and attitudes about the college.
Many said CC helped open their eyes to the joy of exploration and
contributed to their ability to develop original ideas. Many said
CC offered them an intellectual adventure.
Of the alumni we queried:
• 97 percent described the quality of the education they received
at Colorado College as either above average or outstanding
• 91 percent described their attitude about Colorado College
as either positive or very positive
• 88 percent said a liberal arts education offers particularly
good preparation for graduate and
professional school
• 77 percent said a liberal arts education
is the best preparation for a career

One distinctive feature of Colorado
College’s program that many graduates said prepared them especially
well for the future is the Block Plan, our unique academic program.
Established more than 30 years ago, this one-course-at-a-time system
allows our students to devote their full attention to each class,
participate in extensive fieldwork, and interact with outstanding
visiting faculty who would not be available for a conventional semester-long
course.
Of the alumni queried about the
Block Plan:
• 90 percent said the best part of the Block Plan was participating
in a small and intense learning
community
• 88 percent said that the Block Plan allowed them to do their
best by focusing on one academic
subject at a time
• 87 percent said the flexibility of the Block Plan is one
of its greatest advantages
• 86 percent said the Block Plan develops skills and habits
a student will use to his or her advantage in life beyond college
On
the following pages, ten of our alumni — from a pro mountain
biker to attorneys — talk about what they have accomplished
in life and how CC helped them find success.
