About STVP |
Community Based Collaborative Action The Student Venture Partnership (STVP) is a group of civically-minded students who seek to support local non-profits and foster an ethic of philanthropy at the Colorado College. STVP strives to catalyze significant, long-term positive social change in our local community by:
To accomplish our objectives, we apply a new economic model that combines traditional volunteering with a venture capital approach to philanthropy. A larger venture philanthropy organization, Social Venture Partners International, successfully systematized and implemented this model beginning in the 1970's. Now there are a number of comparable organizations though STVP is the first venture partnership composed of college students. To creating lasting change at a local level, STVP Partners collectively select one non-profit organization in the Pikes Peak Region to assist through human and financial resources. Each student Partner donates $100 and 20 hours of volunteer service to the chosen organization. Since Partners collectively donate time and money we create a larger impact than we could achieve alone. The Partnership also fundraises to provide subsidies to Partners who cannot afford a $100 donation. In addition, the Partnership facilitates an educational workshop series on campus that provides a complex understanding of the social needs in our community, the challenges facing the non-profit sector, and the best practices in philanthropy. Through these efforts, we aim to foster a student community of committed philanthropists and engaged volunteers. A student run non-profit, our office is located at the Partnership for Civic Engagement. |
