Sustainable Living House: Tenney House
The Sustainable Living House is located in Tenney House on Cascade Avenue just north of Boetcher Health Center. It houses 20 upper-class students interested in promoting a sustainable lifestyle.
Some projects current Tenney residents are working on:
-The Mathias Coffee House. The first and third Wednesdays of each block an open mic night is held for student musicians in the lounge of Matthias. Fair trade coffee and organic treats are available. Click here to check out some pictures from past performances.
-Bring John Sabella to campus. John Sabella is a sustainable agriculture promoter all over the world and Tenney students are working to have him come and give a talk to the campus about what he does, and its importance to the global communitee and economy. -Purchase sulfur emissions. Individuals, groups, or companies can place a bid to the Chicago Board of Trade, which holds an annual auction for sulfur emissions. In the Spring of 2004, Tenney will decide how much they are willing to spend for one ton of a sulfur pollution credit, and how many they want to buy. The CBT has only a certain amount of credits that they can auction, and the credits go to the highest bidders. Tenney hopes to purchase two or three tons of sulfur credit and retire them so that they are never burned. Click here to read an article from The Business Review about the auction.
