Monday, April 22

1:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m.

Slade-Strand Straw Bale Building and information booths with themes of home energy conservation, eco-friendly household products, household composting, permaculture gardening, and fair trade coffee.

 

In the newly constructed straw bale pavilion:

6:30 p.m.

Colorado College students present a colorful live rendition of, " The Lorax ", by Dr. Seuss, addressing issues of deforestation.

7:00 p.m.

Open Mic-Celebration of Diversity

Featuring Ty Otis

Community members are welcome to share words, music, and thoughts in this celebration of the world around us.

 

Monday's events will also feature the Colorado College Environmental Science Mobile Lab and outdoor fair trade, organic coffee brewing , provided Colorado College fair trade supporters.

 

Tuesday, April 23

11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A gathering of national and local activist organizations , including the Sierra Club, the Trails and Open Spaces Coalition, the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, and the Colorado Springs Utilities Xeriscaping Project.

 

7 p.m. in Bemis Great Hall

Jerome Osentowski, of the Colorado Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute

Lecture addressing sustainable agriculture and connections with surrounding ecosystems

 

Wednesday, April 24

1:00 p.m. to 2:00

Critical Mass Bike Ride Part I

Gather at 1:00 for some thoughts on the purpose, value, and history of the Critical Mass Movement. At 1:30, depart the Colorado College campus, ride through the streets of Colorado Springs to the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Community Garden, at 29 S. Institute (maps will be provided before departure).

 

2:00 p.m.

Caretakers of the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commision's Community Garden will host an afternoon of education about sustainable gardening.

 

4:00 p.m. (approximately)

Critical Mass Bike Ride Part II

We will depart the PPJPC and return to the Colorado College campus via downtown Colorado Springs streets.

 

6:00 p.m.

Colorado College annual Linneman Lecture, featuring

Vandana Shiva , Director of the Research Foundation for Science, Technology, and Natural Resource Policy and prominent ecologist and global environmental activist

 

Thursday, April 25

 

5:00 p.m.

Outdoor Community Potluck , with a focus on sustainable diets (vegan, vegetarian, organic, macrobiotic)

 

6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Community Speakers:

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and Organic Farming Co-op

Colorado Community Revitalization Association

Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission

Topics will focus on environment actions in the local community.

All-campus picnic featuring organic foods and waste-free, water-free methods of serving

Environmental Majors' Senior Seminars

City-wide Trash Pick-up in the parks and trails lining Monument Creek.

Gather in the lot on the southwest corner of the intersection of Glen and Cache La Poudre for a widespread effort to clean up our city.
