Description: BreakOut is a student-led, student-organized association that coordinates service trips for students, faculty, and staff during block and Spring breaks. Participants travel together to communities where they contribute to one or more projects in progress. BreakOut has been an active part of the CC community since 1989. BreakOut is committed to expanding our volunteers’ horizons through service learning. We challenge our volunteers to a heighten awareness of changes occurring within a community and their own lives and to develop a sense of community with other volunteers and members of the community. We want our volunteers to make the most of each trip, and, part of this recognition, we involve educational and reflection aspects to our trips, which includes discussions addressing any issue encountered by the volunteers. Then, ultimately, we hope our volunteers will bring thoughts and ideas encountered during the trip back to the CC community in their classes or informal discussions with other students, faculty, and staff.
