My name is Liza Sparks and I am from Lafayette, Colorado, which is about a half hour from the state capitol, Denver. I am an English major with a focus on creative writing, and hope to receive an MA in Education within the next three years. In the Colorado Springs community I volunteer at a local elementary school and work as a waitress downtown. On campus I am involved in theater, film, music, and the Leviathan (our poetry/fiction/visual art magazine on campus). I am going on the trip because service, especially global service, is important to me. I think we often underestimate our global connection and too often ignore the problems that do not seem to directly pertain to us. I am excited to stretch out of my comfort zone to help create global social change. I am passionate about people and cannot wait to work with new people.
