The Center for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, a private, non-profit organization, was founded in 1977 as a referral service for victims of domestic violence and their children. The Center includes a variety of comprehensive services -- emergency shelter, counseling, support groups, a 24-hour Crisis Line, a children's program and community education. They currently are in need of volunteers to help in many areas -- assisting clients with the Temporary Restraining Order process and court; helping at the temporary emergency shelter for victimes and their children; providing telephone crisis intervention, information, and referral services on our 24-Hour Helpline; educating groups and individuals on domestic violence prevention; generating support through Community Education, Fundraising, Speakers Bureau, Public Relations and Special Events; observing and documenting violence court proceedings; assisting victims in high-risk domestic violence situations; occasionally helping at special events scheduled throughout the year.
