![]() KRCC-FMWhen KRCC was formed by Colorado College faculty in 1951, no one could imagine it would grow to include students in so many ways. Most notably, in the spring of 2008, students formed their own station, the Sound of Colorado College (the SOCC). As Colorado’s oldest non-commercial, educational radio station students are strongly encouraged to get involved in KRCC. Along with community volunteers, students assist the professional staff in many aspects of broadcasting. For instance, KRCC’s news department has internships for students interested in learning about news production, web design and reporting. KRCC accepts volunteers for office duties year-round, and offers aspiring deejays two volunteer music-host training courses each year in the spring and fall. The SOCC broadcasts on KRCC’s HD3 broadcast stream from the basement studios at 912 North Weber Street. The phone number is: 719-266-3239; call to request a song. E-mail for comments or questions is: makeradio@gmail.com. Please contact the SOCC if you are interested in hosting your own show. KRCC is the NPR Member Station broadcasting across southern Colorado and northern New Mexico. It also streams its programs world-wide from www.krcc.org. KRCC offers a diverse and eclectic range of music and local and national news. KRCC also features programming from Public Radio International, the BBC, American Public Media, Pacifica and many independent producers. The majority of KRCC’s volunteer-hosted music shows are music-mix format which can include: alternative rock, hip-hop, folk, alt-country, world music, house and techno. KRCC also provides a number of locally-produced specialty music shows such as blues, Celtic, jazz, R & B, reggae, Americana and oldies. When KRCC added HD subchannels to its main FM channel, it provided two additional streams of content, available on HD radios in the Pikes Peak region, and Colorado College’s internal network. While the SOCC utilizes KRCC HD3, KRCC HD2 carries more content from NPR and an array of other sources. A complete program guide is available at www.krcc.org. |
