![]() AthleticsAt Colorado College, sports are regarded as an integral part of a liberal arts education, and we encourage all students to participate according to their interests and abilities. Club SportsStudent leaders of each club sport must request approval in writing from the director of club sports. This request must include an operational budget, a participant roster, name of a faculty/staff sponsor, intended use of college facilities, and a projected schedule of competition, which must primarily be against collegiate clubs in the region. Men’s club sports offered are ultimate Frisbee, baseball, rugby, indoor track and field, and ice hockey. Women’s club sports are rugby, ice hockey, ultimate Frisbee, and soccer. Coed club sports are field hockey, equestrian, skiing, and cycling. Gender Equity OverviewColorado College is committed to providing equal opportunities for women in its intercollegiate athletics. This commitment, while governed by Title IX legislation, is also an important part of the philosophy at Colorado College to provide diversity and equal access to all. Intercollegiate SportsCC strives to maintain a men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletics program on a level consistent with our standing as a private, liberal arts college of general excellence. Men compete in basketball, cross country, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, and track. Women compete in basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track, and volleyball. All programs are Division III, with the exceptions of women’s soccer and men’s ice hockey, which compete at the Division I level. Intramural (IM) SportsThe mission of the CC intramural program is to provide opportunities for all students, faculty, and staff in enjoyable, organized recreational activities. Diverse programming is geared to promote healthy lifestyles through physical fitness, social contacts, skill development, and competitive situations. Flag football, ice hockey, volleyball, kickball, racquetball, ice broomball, ultimate Frisbee, dodgeball, innertube water polo, tennis, basketball, slow-pitch softball, and soccer are all part of our intramural sports program. Flyers and sign-up sheets promote participation. To participate in an intramural sport, one must be a full-time student, a college employee, or a dependent of a college employee. Varsity players cannot participate in the same sport(s) or any related sport(s) during the academic year in which they participated as a varsity athlete. All participants in IM hockey must wear approved helmets and face masks, which the college provides for student use. The athletics department provides most game equipment, except racquetball racquets, hockey sticks, and softball gloves. Each IM team must be represented by a captain, who is responsible for communicating information to all team members. The captain is also responsible for members’ actions immediately before, during, and after any game or activity. Participants are expected to behave with control, restraint, and sportsmanship at all times. Failure to do so may result in disqualification of an individual player or an entire team from the sport and elimination from all IM competition for the next two semesters. |
