Other education:
Master of Nonprofit Management, Regis University, 2005
Current employment position:
Admissions Counselor, Colorado College;
Former Client Care Coordinator, Southern Colorado AIDS Project
Experience/areas of interest:
In the nonprofit sector: sexuality education, health education, disease intervention, Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
Extracurricular: hiking, cooking badly, arts, theatre, violin, gardening, yoga.
Why have you chosen to work in or support the nonprofit sector?
Service is important to me; service outside the pursuit of profit is even more important to me. Also, this way I’ll never have to decide how to allocate my fortune when I die.
Why do you want to be a mentor for PIFP?
I love to take people out to coffee; I love interacting with CC students because they have unique perspectives on life. I have also made some really brilliant mistakes in my short career in the nonprofit sector and think I could help folks avoid the mistakes I’ve made!
What’s your favorite book or movie?
I couldn’t choose! The best book I’ve read in the last year is Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I also enjoy Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith by Anne Lamott, but you have to listen to the book on CD, you can’t read it… trust me. Finally, there is a soft spot in my heart for The Lorax. If you intend to go into the nonprofit sector, it is a perfect fit. I am too embarrassed by my taste in movies to share in a public forum.
What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?
I have lived in Colorado for my entire life, except for a brief year in California, and have NEVER skied.
