CC graduation year:
1996
Other education:
MNM (Master's Nonprofit Management) from Regis University in 2003
Current employment position:
Program Officer, Hispanic Scholarship Fund
Experience/areas of interest:
I am a first generation college graduate. I have been an administrative assistant, an office manager, a clinic navigator, research assistant, translator, trainer, and now a program director. I like salsa dancing and other Latino dancing. I do translation/interpreting (Spanish/English) on the side. I am involved with some other nonprofits doing great work.
Why have you chosen to work in or support the nonprofit sector?
It is my life calling. Cannot envision doing anything else.
What do you enjoy or value most about being a PIFP advisory board member?
Lots of people were/are my mentors, and I think it is important to give back. Mentoring helps me connect with the next generation of leaders so I can stay inspired and energized. And maybe someone can tell me about Facebook—over a drink or some lunch. Then we can all network, network, network because that is how nonprofits get on the same page. It is important because nonprofits are the wave of the future.
What’s your favorite book or movie?
Pride & Prejudice, both the BBC film series and the book.
What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?
I hate airplanes. I’d rather play with snakes.
