Catamount Institute
Summer Fellow
Why did you want to become a PIFP Fellow?
As a recent college graduate, I am interested in the nonprofit sector. I am drawn toward a career that incorporates both education and issues of sustainability. My position at the Catamount Institute does exactly that.
Please give a brief description of your job/role in your host organization:
I am a summer educator at the Catamount Institute, which means my job is to help organize and run the summer camps that we offer. Before each five-day camp starts, my role is to design curriculum, plan logistics, and recruit campers. During camp, I am the lead counselor, which means I get to have fun and play with kids! I teach the lessons, lead games, catch bugs and crawdads, and have a generally good time.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about your host organization so far?
The Catamount Institute offers environmental education to all ages and interest groups. The summer camps and after-school programs serve kids ranging in age from 4 to 16, while the adult education and teacher education programs serve community members, business leaders, and certified teachers.
What activities do you enjoy?
I love running, hiking, climbing of any kind, and skateboarding down steep windy roads.
What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?
I have never broken a single bone in my entire body.
