COLORADO COLLEGE PUBLIC INTEREST FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Mark Neuman-LeeMark Neuman-Lee ‘09
Colorado Fiscal Policy Institute
Yearlong Fellow

Why did you want to become a PIFP Fellow?

I wanted to get experience working in Denver politics, educate myself about issues in Colorado, and make connections with involved people.

Please give a brief description of your job/role in your host organization:

I am called a policy fellow. Thus far I have spent much time learning about Colorado’s budget, which is a complicated subject to grasp. My primary task right now is to plan a state tour for COFPI in the fall to talk to different groups around the state about Colorado’s budget woes. I have also been asked to begin to put together a civic engagement agenda for COFPI, and figure out ways to reach out to voters more. Another main task I am doing is database work, where I analyze different budget and tax policy using Excel, which helps generate reports on our budget.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about your host organization so far?

I’ve learned how influential the organization is in fiscal policy matters in the state.

What activities do you enjoy?

Meeting people and company lunches, which we take quite frequently.

What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?

At work, maybe it’s that I have interests in things outside of pragmatic political stuff like the arts, playing guitar, and camping.
