COLORADO COLLEGE PUBLIC INTEREST FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Brenna SwiftBrenna Swift ‘09
National Conference of State Legislatures Partnership on Family Economic Success
Summer Fellow

Why did you want to become a PIFP Fellow?

I want to dedicate my career and my future to giving back to the community, and the PIFP fellowship was the perfect way for me to begin doing that. I volunteered a lot in college and knew that I had to work for a nonprofit when I graduated.

Please give a brief description of your job/role in your host organization:

I help my organization prepare for its annual meeting by proofreading handouts, schedules, and other documents. I was an English major in college, and this is something I really enjoy. I also help the media manager draft press releases and schedules. But so far, the most important thing I’ve done has been tracking certain topics in state legislation. I write summaries of the bills and decide whether they’re relevant.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about your host organization so far?

I had no idea that the NCSL annual meeting was as big as it is. It brings thousands of people together to discuss a variety of important issues.

What activities do you enjoy?

I enjoy writing, digital photography, blogging, hiking, traveling, and swimming.

What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?

I love dogs and wouldn’t mind opening up my own dog day care.
