COLORADO COLLEGE PUBLIC INTEREST FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Riley WymanRiley Wyman ‘11
Colorado Health Institute
Summer Fellow

Why did you want to become a PIFP Fellow?

I needed a summer job and I wanted to familiarize myself with a sector I know so little about. It’s a sector that’s easy to misjudge as altruistic, perfect, and uniform, so I wanted to change my perception through an incredible learning experience.

Please give a brief description of your job/role in your host organization.

I spend a great deal of time doing health research—whether about the link between hypertension and obesity or child immunization. I have written multiple literature reviews, investigated data about high health insurance rates in Pueblo, and spent a lot of time updating the data and research of the Colorado Health Report Card.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about your host organization so far?

Understanding the place and importance of data and research in any publication, idea, or issue has been valuable.
