Lauren Frinkman ‘08 ACLU Foundation of Colorado Yearlong Fellow
Why did you want to become a PIFP Fellow?
It appeared to be an excellent opportunity to hold a prestigious nonprofit position that was both paid and included real projects that were fruitful and impacting.
Please give a brief description of your job/role in your host organization:
I am currently working on a summer project with other summer interns in which we are researching the last Colorado legislative session and scoring both legislators and specific bills based on their correlation with the ACLU mission. In the fall and winter, I will have other long-term projects ranging from researching the death penalty and monitoring the legislation to any project which might spark my interest. My days are also filled with flyering, data entry, fund-raising, and any other tasks that aid in protecting freedom. I enjoy doing research on bills and laws, in which my specific work is relied upon as definitive and true.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about your host organization so far?
The ACLU’s nonpartisan position is no joke. In the midst of a government that is difficult to define without the use of political parties, the ACLU’s mission would not falter with the political parties’ demise. Civil liberties for everyone is the bottom line.
