Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
Summer Fellow
Why did you want to become a PIFP Fellow?
I wanted to become a PIFP fellow to be able to explore the other side of the nonprofit sector. I have often volunteered for nonprofits, but never considered actually working/interning for an organization. I really wanted to expand my horizons.
Please give a brief description of your job/role in your host organization:
I mostly work with the Supervised Exchange Parenting Time (SEPT) program, which deals with court-mandated visitations for children and their parents. I help not only with the visitations, but with the organization of the program as well—such as orientation and resource guides. CASA has also allowed me to explore my interests with the court system, grants, etc.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about your host organization so far?
All of the individuals on the staff are so passionate about the mission statement of CASA, which is so motivating! The really put themselves into the shoes of the children they advocate for.
