Colorado College Student's Award-Winning Research Available Online
COLORADO SPRINGS -- Greek fraternities don't party like they use to, according to Colorado College junior Darcie Hutchison from Coralville, Iowa, the winner of AbleMedia's Bronze Chalice for her research, "The Classical Symposium in Greek Art."

Published online at the Classics Technology Center on the Web site (see the report online), Hutchison concludes that modern fraternity parties are tame compared to ancient Greece. By studying symposium scenes on ancient Greek vases, she found the fraternity revelry of ancient days to be racy by modern standards. Hutchison describes a typical symposium - including its guests, entertainment and drinking games - and links the text to images on a variety of ancient Greek vases.

Hutchison developed a Web page for a class in Greek and Roman, taught by CC classics Professor Owen Cramer. Cramer suggested that she submit it to CTCWeb. "We are pleased to publish Darcie's work and want more educators to encourage their students to submit their projects to CTCWeb," says Wendy E. Owens, CTCWeb editor-in-chief.

CTCWeb is a repository of practical tools, for classicists and other educators, to enhance the use of computer technology in education. At CTCWeb, students, educators and others openly exchange practical educational materials, systems, and applications. AbleMedia, a global management and technology consulting firm, sponsors CTCWeb as part of its community outreach program.
