COLORADO SPRINGS -- Original musical compositions by CC professors will premiere at a convocation honoring CC's 125th anniversary at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Shove Chapel, located on the east side of campus at the intersection of Yampa and Nevada.Assistant professor of music Ofer Ben-Amot's slow movement, Pastoral Invocation, will be played by Frank Shelton, the college's organist. Professor of music Stephen Scott's Double Variations will be performed by the Estonian/American Bowed Piano Ensemble.
The CC gamelan orchestra and Balinese dancers will also perform. The gamelan ensemble is taught and directed by I Made Lasmawan, a Bali native whose professional training includes advanced degrees in Indonesian music, dance, and puppetry from the national conservatories of Bali and Java. Lasmawan joined the CC faculty in 1993.
Timothy Fuller, dean of the faculty and the college, will host the convocation, and President Kathryn Mohrman will give the opening address. College chaplain Bruce Coriell and senior pastor Jim White of Colorado Springs' First Congregational United Church of Christ will explore the historic ties between Colorado College and the church. The college and the church were founded in the same year.
A complimentary photo-history of the college will be given to those who attend.
