COLORADO SPRINGS -- Colorado College has been awarded a $800,000 grant from the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation to enhance the college's international studies program. The grant, awarded March 15, consists of $300,000 for direct operating costs, including course development, faculty development, and financial aid for study abroad. The remaining $500,000 portion is a 1-to-1 matching grant for endowment to support these same activities in perpetuity.
"At Colorado College, we prepare students for lives that will be internationally and culturally complex," said Kathryn Mohrman, CC president. "We hope to offer all students intercultural experiences, whether regional, national or international. We very much appreciate the foundation's generous support of our goals."
In 1998, the college launched the Campaign for Colorado College, a comprehensive effort to raise $83 million for increased financial aid, two new teaching facilities, and other support of educational enterprises. The Johnson Endeavor Foundation grant specifically supports the campaign's efforts to raise a $2 million endowment for international study.
"The foundation believes in this institution's work and welcomes the opportunity to assist in improving the quality of your international programs and access to them," says foundation president Julie Kidd.
The mission of the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation of New York City is to provide support to innovative and thoughtful programs at liberal arts colleges.
