The CC-Cheney Connection

Dick CheneyDick Cheney, the GOP’s vice presidential candidate, was keynote speaker and proud parent at CC’s 1991 commencement. Cheney, who was secretary of defense at the time, told the graduates and more than 3,000 spectators that America’s defense of freedom throughout the world should be commended. The CC-Cheney connection runs deep: Dick’s wife, Lynne, an English major, graduated from CC in 1963 and spoke at commencement in 1987, when she chaired the National Endowment for the Humanities; daughter Mary, a history major, graduated in ’91, and daughter Elizabeth, who majored in political science, graduated in 1988. Elizabeth married Philip Perry, an ’86 grad.
