Nick Pascucci and 3d printer

Nick Pascucci and 3d printer
Graduating senior Nick Pascucci built a 3-D printer just for fun. A computer science major, he used an open source design, not a kit, and scrounged the parts from various locations. Such printers are unusual, expensive, and rare, and he figures he put about $700, a fraction of the usual cost, into his. The printer, which makes copies of structures by extruding a melted polymer filament, is controlled by a computer program. Nick built a robot (left) for his senior thesis with parts made on his printer. Photo by Melissa Beyers.
