Replace an Image

See the Best Practices section for suggested image preparation and file organization when uploading images.


Replacing images in the WYSIWYG:

  1. Using the Website Browser tab, navigate to the page where you will be replacing the image and double click on the name of the page to preview it.
  2. Click "Edit" on the Web Page Content item where you want to replace the image.
  3. Click on the image to highlight it.
  4. Click the "Insert/Edit Image" icon in the toolbar.
  5. In the dialogue box that comes up, click on the icon to the right of the "Image URL" field and browse to the folder in dotCMS where you have saved the image you want to replace the previous image with
    OR
    if you haven't already uploaded an image, you can follow the instructions for uploading an image while in the WYSIWYG.
  6. Click on the image you would like to replace the previous image with.
  7. You are taken back to the "Insert/Edit Image" dialogue box where you will modify the "Title" and "Description" fields if necessary.
  8. Continue styling or formatting your image as desired.
  9. Click the "Insert" button at the bottom when you are done.

Replacing Images in a Folder:

  1. Using the Website Browser tab in dotCMS, navigate to the folder where you have saved the image you will be replacing.
  2. Double click on the name of the image you want to replace to view its properties.
  3. In the "Upload New File" field, click the "Choose File" button.
  4. Browse to the image on your computer, select it, and click "Choose".
    Note: Make sure the image you are about to use has the same name as the previous image file so you don't have to redo any images already inserted in your content. 
  5. Change in the "Title" and "Description" fields if applicable.
  6. Click "Save" or "Save and Publish".

Replacing an image in the CC - Photo/Image content item

  1. Using the Website Browser tab, navigate to the page where you will be adding the image and double click on the name of the page to preview it.
  2. Click "Edit" in the content container where you will be replacing the image.
  3. Click "Remove" next to the "Image" field displaying a small version of the current image.
  4. Click "Browse" next to the "Image" field and navigate to the folder where the image is saved
    OR
    you can upload an image by clicking on "Upload New Image" at the top of the dialogue box and completing that process before continuing.
  5. Click the image you would like to use.
  6. Click "Save" or "Save and Publish" when you are done.
