How the IRB is Staffed
Federal regulations dictate that Institutional Review Boards shall be composed of at least five members, only four of whom can be affiliated with the institution (see section 46.107).
At Colorado College, The Director of Institutional Research chairs the IRB. The Faculty Executive Committee appoints two additional faculty members from those faculty who supervise empirical research involving human participants.
The Chair of the IRB, in consultation with the Chair of the Governance sub-committee of the Faculty Executive Committee identifies a knowledgeable person from outside the College to sit on the IRB. In addition, a Colorado College staff member sits on the IRB.
The members of the IRB are:
Amanda Udis-Kessler, Chair

and

The IRB supports human subjects research with no or minimal harm, good consent processes, no deception or debriefed deception, confidentiality or anonymity and the use of fairly chosen participants who can refuse to participate if they choose.
