Newly admitted degree-seeking multilingual students will be invited to attend the Intensive English Institute, to be held August 3rd through 20th, 2013 at Colorado College, immediately prior to International Student Orientation. This is a new initiative which is designed to provide students the opportunity to strengthen fluency with academic English prior to the beginning of the official school year.
Students will be invited to the Institute because their applications indicate a potential benefit from intensive language instruction. The Institute will not only prepare students to succeed at CC but will also allow them to invest in their professional futures.
The coursework in this Institute will focus on an introduction to the study of the liberal arts and on the linguistic skills necessary to do well on the block plan. As a participant in the Institute, you will have the chance to delve into important social, political and/or cultural issues that loom large in both the real world and in the college environment. As a student at a liberal arts college, you will be challenged to engage your intellect as a scientific investigator, careful reader, active listener, critical thinker, and analytical writer. The Intensive English Institute helps you sharpen these tools while developing collaborative relationships with faculty, staff and other students.
Upon completion of the Institute, you will earn ½ unit (two semester hours) of course credit. During the course, student mentors will share their experiences with you and teach you about CC as only other students can. Mentors will also be attending class and helping you with homework. Because these connections with your mentors and other students are so important, we require students to live in a dorm while attending the Institute.
In addition to your academic work, you will have time to take advantage of leisure activities. Afternoon and weekend activities and field trips have been planned to help you enjoy the Colorado College campus and the wonders of the state of Colorado.
A program fee of $4,125 will be charged to your student account for participation in the Intensive English Institute. This program fee encompasses payment for the ½ unit (two semester hours) of course credit, room & board, extracurricular activities as well as transportation from the Colorado Springs Airport to the Colorado College campus.
Participating in the Institute, earning ½ unit (two semester hours) of course credit, and beginning your work toward success are great ways to start your career at Colorado College. Given the logistics and time necessary to apply for a visa, you are encouraged to make your decision to participate in the Institute as soon as possible. Students may opt into/out of this Institute through their CCBasecamp.com account no later than May 1st, 2013. If you elect to participate in the Institute, additional details about the program and your arrival on campus will be emailed to you.
