Most Successful Mentor Activities Linked to FYE Class

  • Met before class began to answer questions (Sunday night)
  • Study sessions before a test (in apartment or The Preserve)
  • Organizing study groups before tests (told them to “teach me the material”)
  • Group meetings to discuss registration (served ice cream, Chinese food, pizza)
  • Individual sessions to review papers
  • Individual meetings for pre-registration advising
  • Advising session with computer to introduce them to ACCESS
  • Going to FYE class or labs
  • Went to class and offered to help with papers
  • Professor invited local alums to a dinner at his house
  • Required mid-Block 1 meeting (lots of questions and discussion)
