FYE Course Registration
FYE Registration for Fall Starts is now available. Your choices must be submitted by July 2, 2012.
FYE Registration for Winter Starts is now available. Your choices must be submitted by August 31, 2012. For questions, please contact sarah.milteer@coloradocollege.edu or registrar@coloradocollege.edu
First, since you are doing this from off campus, you will need to sign on to our virtual private network (SSLVPN) in order to directly connect to our network and complete the registration. You will use the same username and password to log in to SSLVPN as you use for your CC email account. Also note that you must log into your email account first, so make sure to do that if you haven't already. Instructions for logging on to SSLVPN.
Second, once you are logged in to SSLVPN, click the link that says “Self Service Banner” – this will bring you to the login for Self Service Banner (SSB), which you’ll use for FYE registration and throughout your time at CC. Here you will use your Student ID number and PIN as printed on your welcome letter. Instructions for logging on to SSB.
After you are logged in to SSB, go to the “Students” page and select “FYE Pre-registration” and follow the instructions from there to make your selections. Once you submit your courses, you should receive a notification of what you entered the following day. You may make changes up to July 2.
If you have questions about the courses or point system, please contact the Registrar’s Office: Registrar@coloradocollege.edu. The Help Desk (719-389-6449; HelpDesk@coloradocolege.edu) will be able to assist you if you have questions about signing in to the site.
You will pick 8 possible FYE courses from the FYE course description list. Nearly all students will be placed into one of these FYE courses for Blocks 1 and 2 (final placement will be by the discretion of the Dean’s Office). This form is not used to register for Blocks 3-8. Registration for Blocks 3-8 takes place in October.
You have 20 points with which to bid on your eight choices. If more students sign up for a course than the course will hold, those who have placed the greatest number of points on that course will be admitted first. FYE courses are capped at 16 students for a single-instructor course (one instructor each block) and at 25 students for a team-taught course (two instructors each block). If more than 16 students place an equal number of points on a single-instructor class, then the computer will randomly select the students in that class, and move to the next lower choice for those students not selected. Thus, if you feel equally inclined toward your top eight choices, you might put close to equal points (using whole numbers only) on each one. On the other hand, if you greatly prefer one course to the others, you should place extra points on that course but should still select eight in all. We recommend that you do not place all of your points on one course.
If you are a risk-taker and place all your points on one course and do not get in, the computer will place you behind all other students who place one or more points on your next course and if there are more than sixteen such students you will not get into that course; the computer will look at the next course on your list and repeat the process. Thus, it is likely that you will end up in a course that is low on your list or maybe not even one of the eight you chose. Please do not list only one or two courses as we have no way of knowing what your other choices might be if there are no spaces available in the one or two courses you listed.
