On the first day of Psychology Professor Bob Jacobs' "Brain and Society” class, some high school students quietly took in the fact that Jacobs had assigned what looked like about six hours of reading for next day.
“We just went, wow, that’s a lot,” said student Sarah Davidson, who is from Westfield, N.J.

Daunted but not panicked, they headed for Tutt Library.
“Let’s kick it out, get it done,” she said they decided.
It was the beginning of an intense three weeks during Block C for nine “pre-college” students in Jacobs’ class who faced the Block Plan, college-level assignments, and even study groups for the first time. For most, the experience was vastly different than a high school class.
“We love it,” said Danellys Wong of New York City as Davidson and four other high school students nodded vigorously in agreement during a study break in McGregor Hall, where pre-college students lived for the block.
