Leadership Team

John Lauer, Senior Associate Dean of Students & Director of Residential Life

The Director of Residential Life and Housing is responsible for the administration and operation of the College’s comprehensive residential program that encompasses approximately 1,600 students in 29 residential halls. The Director ensures that residents enjoy a high level of service and rapid response through advanced technology, innovative thinking, and service-oriented personnel. John has worked at Colorado College for 7 years. In his role as Senior Associate Dean of Students, John supervises both the Director of Honnen Ice Arena and the Director of Campus Safety and co-chairs the college’s emergency planning committee. He is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Pikes Peak and a member of the inaugural class of Colorado College’s Leadership Academy.  John has been active in the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I), serving at both the regional and national level. He is also a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).

Justin Weis, Associate Director Residential Life and Housing

The Associate Director is responsible for providing leadership for residence hall operational and maintenance needs, supervision of operations support staff, providing day to day coordination of the apartment and faculty housing program, the department’s sustainability initiatives, emergency planning, leadership and management for the department’s asset management, capital improvements and renovations, and area budget.  Justin has worked at Colorado College and the ResidentialLife and Housing Department for 12 years.

The Assistant Director is responsible for providing leadership for residence hall and student apartment programs, education, conduct, processes and procedures (including check-in and check-out and summer programs), and for providing direct supervision of five professional live-in Residential Life Coordinators (RLC) and indirect supervision of fifty-five student Resident Advisors (RA) and three professional Desk Coordinators (DC).  This position works closely with the Associate Director on the day to day coordination of all aspects of the department.  Sara has worked at Colorado College for 7 years.

The Assistant Director for Operations and Conferences is responsible for operational responsibilities in the central office to include finance, faculty apartments, conferences, marketing, information technology.  She has worked at Colorado College for 27 years in various departments on campus.  In 2013 she won the Colorado College Institutional Achievement Award for significant achievement by an institution in the conference and events field.

Zak is the RLC for Loomis Hall. He has worked at Colorado College and the Residential Life and Housing Department for 3 years.

Kathy Butler, Room Assignments Specialist

The Room Assignment Specialist is responsible for determining housing assignments for on-campus students during the academic year and summer sessions.  The position also oversees the wait list process and room changes, approves or denies requests for students applying to live off campus, maintains residential records and occupancy reports, resolves student concerns, and serves as the primary contact for parents and students with housing questions, suggestions, or complaints.  Kathy has worked at Colorado College for 10 years.

The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for processing the paperwork for all expenses and revenues from managing the P-cards, to budget development, project management, processing payments for the entire department, and performing other clerical duties for the department.  Sandy has worked 8 of her 16 years at CC, in the Residential Life and Housing Department.

The Operations Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative support to the Assistant Director in managing inventory control, updating website, and coordinating departmental events and conferences, providing assistance to students, conference guests, and staff, and conducting research and analysis to assist in the design and implementation of departmental strategies and employee training materials.
