Chief Technology Officer Search

4/30/2013

Dear Campus Community,

After conversations with technology experts in both higher education and the private sector, the reviewers from our recent Information Management external review, and our Information Management staff, I have decided to rename our vice president for information management position the chief technology officer (CTO). In a rapidly changing technological environment, I believe this title better captures the type of individual and skills we are seeking. Attached you will find the job specification we will use to recruit our next CTO.

Additionally, beginning this fall, the Information Management Department will be renamed Information Technology Services. Our IM department proposed this change (which I understand is a name from the past) and I am supportive of their proposal.

If you have any suggestions or nominations of CTO candidates, please do not hesitate to send them to me or any member of the search committee. As always, if you have any questions, please visit our website or let me know.

Best,
Jill

Dear Campus Community,

A few weeks ago, I announced my decision to begin a national search to find our next vice president for information management. Since my last communication to you, I am thrilled to announce that a search committee is assembled and we have hired an experienced consultant who will help guide us through this process.

The search committee, which I will chair, includes:

Ryan Banagale '00, assistant professor of music; Trevor Barron '15, student and President's Council member; Molly Bodnar, Assistant Vice President for Advancement Operations; Emily Chan, associate professor of psychology; Christin Deville, Help Desk analyst; Re Evitt, associate dean of the college and associate professor of English; Greg Piesco-Putnam '05, information technology entrepreneur; Manuel Rendon, database administrator; Brian Thomson '85, trustee; Karen To, director of web communications/new media; and Barbara Wilson, director of human resources. Jermyn Davis, chief of staff, president's office, will staff the committee.

We will be using the services of Keith Giarman of DHR International. Keith has significant experience in helping with searches in the technology sector. Next week, the search committee, cabinet, Information Technology and Library  Board and the information management division will meet with Keith to begin discussing the experience and characteristics we hope to find in our next chief technology officer. If you have comments, ideas, or questions that will aid us in this process, please let me know.

In the coming weeks, the search committee will work with me to finalize the job description for this position, which will be posted here. This webpage is where you can also find subsequent updates about this search process.

It is my goal to fill this position by the beginning of the next academic year; however, my top priority is finding the best person for Colorado College.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

With warm regards,

Jill

Dear Campus Community,

I would like to announce that I have decided to initiate a national search for our next vice president for Information Management. Currently, I am pulling together a search committee and reviewing possibilities for a search firm that will assist me in finding the best candidate. The recent external review of Information Management will serve as a guide to the committee and the firm, and also help us chart our vision for this department. I shared this news last week with our Information Management staff.

Dave Armstrong has chosen not to vie for this role, but he will continue to lead Information Management during this transition. I am grateful for his service and leadership as the interim vice president for Information Management.

This search is critical to our future success, as technology will play an important role in not only our academic mission, but also our administrative operations. Future updates about the search committee and position description as well as all other updates will be posted at http://www.coloradocollege.edu/offices/presidentsoffice/cabinet/vp-im/.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Best regards,

Jill Tiefenthaler
